  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup hot water

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla; mix until smooth.

  • Gradually stir in hot water until the batter is well combined.

  • Fold in chocolate chips.

  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

 

  • Cool completely before frosting with your favorite fudge icing.
